Entering a Challenge (Main category) Back to Top

    FujiMugs Challenges are open to anyone using a Fujifilm digital camera. You do not have to own the camera - you may borrow one from a friend or relative.

    Your photo must be taken during the Challenge entry period. EXIF data is required in order to validate your entry. The date the photo was taken, exposure info, and the camera model are read from the EXIF data for verification. If your entry does not contain the EXIF data, or you are unsure, upload the original photo using the 'Original' field on the upload form.

    Photo editing programs treat EXIF data in different ways. Some will preserve it, while others do not. Finding an EXIF viewer (A search on Google for "EXIF viewer" returns many results), then use the EXIF viewer to check your entry before you upload it. The following information should be present in the EXIF data: Exposure, aperture (f-number), ISO setting, and original date/time.

    You may update and/or re-upload your entry any number of times during the entry period. Your entry is not visible to anyone else until voting starts.

    When you upload an entry, it is assigned a unique file name based on your user ID, challenge number, and category. When voting starts, entries are given a random number between 1 and 999,999. During voting, the entries are displayed in order of that assigned number.

    The entry period typically runs for about two weeks, concluding at the end of the day on a Thursday (GMT). Voting is then open through the weekend, closing at the end of the day the following Monday. You do NOT have to submit an entry in order to vote! Any registered member may vote and comment in any Challenge. Voting is done by selecting your favorites among the entries, arranging your favorites into your top ten, then recording your vote (the top ten favorites). You may rearrange and update your vote any number of times during the voting period.

    The camera model and name of the entrant are not shown with the entries during voting. By default, the post-processing and exposure info is not shown with the entries. If you wish to see the post-processing and exposure info with the entries, update your profile and click the 'show post-processing' box.

    The winner chooses the next Challenge subject.

    The Open category is open to photos taken with any digital camera. Please do not upload an entry for the sake of uploading something - make sure your entry fits the Challenge subject. The subject is the same for the Main (Fujifilm-only) category and the Open category. If you submit an entry to the Main category, you may enter the Open category too. You may not submit the same entry to both.

Voting in a Challenge Back to Top

    All registered members may vote in both the Main and Open categories, whether you have submitted an entry or not. Voting is done by looking through the entries and selecting favorites. After selecting 10 or more favorites, you will arrange them in order of your first place choice, down to your tenth place choice. That's all there is to it. When the voting period ends, your top ten favorites will be recorded as your vote. You will not be able to vote for your own entry.

    FujiMugs uses cookies to remember your login information. This info is used by other pages to identify you when you upload a Challenge entry, mugshot, etc.

    If you log in successfully (no errors are shown), and the login form is still displayed, the web site is probably not setting cookies correctly for your browser, or your browser does not allow cookies to be set. If this is the case, please contact admin@fujimugs.com.

Privacy, Pop-ups, and Advertising Back to Top

    FujiMugs does not contain or accept advertisements or any kind of third-party tracking or information gathering software. Whenever you log in, or visit the web site and are already logged in, the date of your visit is recorded in the FujiMugs database. This is used only to identify members who have not visited the web site in a long time and to inactivate those old registrations.

    Any information you provide upon registration is kept private and will never be shared with any person, company, or other entity. Exceptions are:
    • You may choose to make your email address available to other members. To help hide your email address from programs that mine them from web sites, a link to your email address will not contain the address itself, but a reference to your member id (meaningless to anything outside of FujiMugs). Clicking that link will pop up a small window that redirects to your email address. There is still a small chance of a web robot finding your email address there, but it's less likely than having it directly linked on one of the FujiMugs pages.
    • When you register or update your profile, please select the country you live in. This will be displayed next to your member profile for others to see and will help keep our stats accurate on the number of countries represented here. If you enter a location, such as your city, state, province, etc., you may choose to display it for others to see.


    There will never be advertisements or annoying pop-up windows on FujiMugs. But, some links may open in a new window or open a smaller window, such as the email link described in the previous paragraph. If you click on a link and nothing seems to happen, it may be due to a pop-up blocker you have installed or activated with your browser. If you are unable to allow pop-ups for this web site, or have allowed them and the link still does not work, it may just be an error on the web site. Please send email if you have any questions or problems with links on the site.

    The FujiMugs Forums are open to all registered members. To keep a consistent look and readability in the forums, HTML tags are not allowed in posts. There are special tags which can be used to make text bold, underline, or italic. The special tags also support URLs and image linking. And, there is a special "entry" tag to search for and reference a Challenge entry.

    Please keep your posts clean and tasteful. Vulgar and/or offensive posts will be removed and the person posting it may be banned from posting in the future.
