Extra Info:
Cruqius, the former steam-driven pumping station of the Haarlemmermeer Polder. From the middle ages, as a result of dikes giving away and of peat digging in the surrounding lands Lake Haarlem was continually expanding. The water, driven up by the wind, menaced the lands to the north-east and even Amsterdam. After plans to drain the lake had been drawn up for two centuries, the decision was made following the storms of 1836. Leeghwater, Cruquis and Lynden pumping stations, all of the same design, pumped the lake dry within three years, so that in 1852, preparations could be made for using the new land. The Cruqius is one of the oldest examples of industrial history. The engine- unique in design and with the largest diameter in the world- forms a high point in the era of steam. The engine and the neo-Gothic building are one: the circular wall of the crenellated engine room forms the beam wall and pivot of the eight beams.

Certainly fits the theme. Nice history lesson too. *grin*

Two things immediately bugged me. It's not level and you have haloes around the building. Other than that the technical part is ok. Exposure could only get better by increasing the available dynamic range in some fashion.

As to composition, I think I would prefer to see a little more of the landscape on the left. opening up the crop would let this breathe a little better. Although at the expense of some detail. But I think it would handle it well.

Very interesting to look at this site and watch how pump works. Nice photo of very interesting technology and architecture...a little crooked but in my tt...good luck.

Nice take on theme. Refreshing actually .... it's not a circuit board :-). What a great find for technology. The images does appear a bit 'over cooked' maybe it's the sharpening. But I do like the entry for this challenge, IMF. Good luck, dp.

I didn't care much for this challenge, so this time around I voted for photos that were a little different from the ordinary tech pictures such as a piece of electronic equipment or device.

I like the contrast in this picture between the green grass, the brick structure and the sky. I've never seen a building like this, very nice. In my tt.

An imposing building that must have proclaimed in it's time that it was on the leading edge of technology.
I rotated it slightly to the right to correct the chimney and right wall without affecting it's overall composition.
In my TT.

Historically facinating. Thanks for the information. I have often wondered how they were pumped dry at that time.
