Hi Retief. Thank you for your recent comment on my entry's page. For the record, I don't think there's anything at all wrong with your sense of photographic judgement! :-D I am delighted that you agreed to choose the next challenge. Deserved? Yes, absolutely. :-) And it's a good one too! See you there. Cheers, N

Thank you very much for everyone's comments and votes. I think the real star of this entry is the little delicate baby chameleon, which made it easy for this entry to finish so high. These gentle slow moving small reptiles are quite common in the gardens in Cape Town's suburbs and surrounding area. My daughter often picks one up and takes it close to where a fly is sitting. It is fascinating to see the long tongue dart out at high speed with the sticky end capturing the fly. Their eyes can move independently of each other. Another fascinating thing is obviously to see them change their skin colour to fit their surroundings. The Cape chameleon is quite a small species, with much larger species found in tropical Africa and especially in Madagascar.

Congratulations for your highest place so far. You climbed steep. I saw one of those the other day at my friends house, but it was a bit bigger. Nice shot. Regards

Marvellous detail! (I had a little chap just like him as a pet once. His name was Bainbridge and he used to sit on my lapel. We would go to the corner cafe with him on my finger and I would point him at a fly and he would catch it with his sticky tongue! He knew when it was lunch time and would hold out his arms to me when he saw me coming! He eventually went back into the garden.) In my top 5! Good luck!!

Wow! How neat is this! Excellent shot, 'cept for one thing. Focus on the little guys' head and eye. Don't know if it's because of an extremely narrow DoF or some kind of motion blur. Either way, sharpness/focus there was missed. Detail, and sharpness, everywhere else is good and strong.

Great topic for this theme. Original, too! What a cute little critter. I admire the detail in the fingerprint, though to be 'perfect' the focus should be on the chameleon's eye -- which is slightly out of focus here. Definitely in my first draft of favorites (top 15).

Love the picture, is this a pet or was it really a garden visitor? Tiny little critter isn't he/she?

What a beautiful little creature and it doesn't seem to be too scared. Good composition, lighting is spot on. Finger is sharp and chameleon could be a little sharper but I don't think you were able to take too many shots. Well done.

The little guy looks great. I find the finger distracting, though something must be there to show scale I guess.

wow.. what a tiny lizard! ( all the more so compare with the finger ) Unbelievable small & fragile ....fantastic shot. A light more light on the eyes area would have been great ! In my tt for sure.
