This was easily my #1 but there was some terrific competition. Congrats to both you and your son! Both are talented!

John, thanks for voting for my pic! You were my nr.1 as well: telepathy?
I really like this kid's posture, and to my amateuristic eyes, the blur was not a problem at all. Reall nice shot.

Thanks for all the graet comments. I did not think this would get this many comments.
The background was very distracting and I had to do something if I was to enter it. First I did a selection around my son and saved that as a channel. I then used the quick mask and made a gradient selection from a point up from the bottom to keep the very foreground in focus. I then combined the two selections into one and applied lens blur. It took a few tries to get it right. It's not perfect does have a little fake look about it.
Thanks very much, the comments are appreciated.

one of the best (and few) times i've seen a PP blur done - very precise and realistic. It really does make the subject stand out. Great pose you've captured - the outstreached arms really do look like he's learning to fly! Composition is spot on, well done.

Excellent action capture! Putting the lense blur in was a good choice and where it was started as well. It does appear to be too much of a dramatic change though. Having a small transition area into the blur I think might be better. What an antiquated looking board. Wood and sandpaper/no-skid is what it looks like. Back in the day.... LOL. Brings back fond memories of several skateboard fractures I suffered. Nice shot!

Nice work on the BG blur. Shudder perhaps?
Well composed. Nice timing on the action too. And the image fits the theme in my opinion. In my faves.

Fun shot! I like that you've got all ofhim in the frame. The selective blurring is a bit heavy (though I do like the technique!).

Nice shot. I might have cropped a bit more off the bottom and the selective blur is maybe a bit much under the skateboard, but overall I love it enough to be in my TT. Good luck.

I really like this picture, you've frozen the moment perfectly.
The background is nicely blurred, and it is a very good crop.
In my top 3 for definite.

Impressive photo, nicely cropped/composed, good use of color and good capture of motion. Somehow the more I look at the photo the less true or natural the out of focus area seems. Does 'selective lens blur' mean that you outlined the figure and blurred the background?
At first this did not say 'learning to fly' to me, but then I noticed the outstretched arms (wings) and the youthful subject and realized it fits very well.

This photo changes my outlook on Pink Floyd's song. I've always envisioned it as being dark. However, this works very well. The photo is amazing and perfectly done. In my TT

Tom Petty's tune jumps off my screen! Perfect! In my TT and, this should do well. Lens blur (post-processing) technique is pretty good. At only 1/250s, your timing was terrific. ....

Cool ollie shot! He'll get there, but for his next birthday, get him a deck with a decent tail ;-)
Nice framing, the high shutter (although not even that high, you caught him in mid-air I suppose) approach is great, clear pic. I like it.
