HI evrybody in this forum, I'm new here, got the link from the dpreview-forum, got my s602 last week and now I'm working on challenge #4, coming too late for the first challenges.... sorry if that's the wrong place to say hello... ;-) I'm just a beginner in taking fotos, but I really like this one, really deserves the first place.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for the wonderful feedback I got here. This was really nice for me. And thank you too for the votes which have boosted my sagging photographic confidence of late. a lot of you suggested that I offer prints to this woman. On the day that I took the shots I offered her prints or said I could send her some of the photos through email. She said she would like to see them and thought email would be the quickest way even though she said she really didn't know too much about how to use it! Well I sent her about 15 shots and never heard back from her. I wrote again offering prints and my phone number and still I haven't heard back from her. So I am thinking that maybe she didn't like the photos as much as you all did! I did talk to her for quite a while after my first round of shots. This photo was taken in round two which was after we had spoken for 40 or 45 minutes. I left her feeling an incredible high. It was just so much fun to get to know her. So I would have to say that it has been more than a bit disappointing that I never heard back from her. anyway... that's enough from me. Thank you again. I will come up with a subject for the next challenge ASAP.

This gets my number 1 vote. It's such a powerful image, and one of the best ones I have ever seen to support the argument to have that camera with you at all times. filibuster

Fantastic shot and post processing. I actually didn't vote for you as I'm sure, knowing the tastes of the voters, that you'll win... I gave my vote to more exotic pitures, but you get my thumbs up!

Hello again, the more I stare at this portrait the more it makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. I’m not sure what your intent was, but for me, you nailed the true meaning of “Portraiture” Well done! You got my #1. To be honest it was harder picking the 2nd thru 5th Place. BRAVO! Good Luck! This is an excellent photo! My wife and I agree that this should be first place in this challenge. The feeling of antiquity associated with the lines of this woman's face are accentuated by the BW effect. Great Job!

Truly fantastic subject! I have my doubts about the post-processing, though. I don't know what you or others think, but the face looks overcontrasted or oversharpened. In short: great shot, well framed, but I have a feeling it could be a lot better still.

I was struck by this image - understand totally why you wanted to photo her. Would love to know what's inside her head... so much life in her face

I gotta tell you...this is one of my favorties. Parts of the background and some of the blurring look a tad over processed but you get my vote for one of the Top 5.

I was drawn straight to this photo and it was the first one I viewed in full and it has featured highly in my votes. I love the work Sebastio Selgado and this put me in mind of him - and trust me, that's a compliment. What an interesting face you found to photograph, I wish I could sit and chat with her, I bet she has some stories to tell and the pose and whistful look enhances that idea - it looks like her memories are happy ones though. Just a shame the edge of her hat is slightly missing on the right - perhaps you could extend the photo on that side and do a bit of mirrored inserting from the other side - or just clone it if you have the skill. Well done!!

You have captured the essence of beauty in your portrait of this lady. The photo is crisp and clear and cropped to the exact proportions needed to make one state "Stunning!" Congratulations!

Fantastic! I think its great that you went up and asked someone to take their photo rather than trying to find someone or something around the house to shoot.

Hi, I went straight to this one and thought "thats possibly the winner", for me its what a head and shoulders portrait should be, the persons face from a normal perspective, well (but not flatly) lit with nothing in the background which might distract from the person, little glint catchlight in the eyes which are in the sharpest focus and it helps that she has such an interesting face "obviously lived in" and has smiled plenty in her life :-).
I will almost certainly be voting for this not sure if it will be no 1 of my pics yet but if not it will be very close. Are you going to give her a print of this? I think you should.

Beautiful lady. Great pose. I like very much her far-away stare, which says a lot about her character. Generally when looking at portrait, I like to see some room over the head of the subject, but in this case, your tight composition gives viewers an intimate and confident look on the subject.

Beautiful expression. Great lighting too. I´m a little bothered by the post processing (the way you erased the background) wich is quite bisible. Anyway, a very nice portrait. Congrats.

I like this very much, and I like your model, wrinkles can be so beautiful interesting her smiling is in the whole face. The contrast of dark head and coat and the background give the kick in this pic. But the background cleaning on the shoulders is too artificial IMO. And I don't like the blurring of the lips and the throat. Got my vote.

She does look great, what a face! I bet she could tell a few stories. Great contrast in the photograph, good lighting. Her aged features, her distant gaze, this gets me thinking, and has captured her beautifully.

Great shot. I think it would have been even more powerful if she would have looked straight into the camera. Still, this is a great shot. Nice modeling on the face.
