LOL! Thanks Barr1e and Laura. :-)
That's a fair point, pugsley. Though I like it well enough there's something about the comp that I find a little unsatisfying. Not sure what myself...

Thanks to all for the kind comments and for another good challenge despite a relatively low turn-out.
Yes, I'm afraid it's me, Leanne... Sorry about that. ;-)
Kal: Yes, I did try to get the whole of the headphones into a good composition but they're just too big compared to the microphone. That, and I ran out of space. :-)
Buckshot: Yep, fair enough - I think I know what you mean. There certainly is a lot of dark isn't there? I had intended trying the same comp but with light on the background, but this was taken just 35 minutes before the deadline so I ran out of time. I may try it again sometime. :-)
P_Schneider: Hey thanks! That's great coming as it does from the person who set the challenege. :-) I had hoped that this would not be associated with my pic in the previous 'Communication' challenge (I even used a different microphone, dammit!) - but you're just too good for me! :-) Thanks for the subject, by the way - I wish I'd been able to give my entry more time but I did enjoy it.
Some people liked the lighting, so here is how it was done:
Lit with two old hotshoe flashes, both in small softboxes. The first was above the setup, camera-left, coloured with Dark Lavender (Lee 180) and Rose Pink (Lee 002) gels. The other was below the setup, camera-right, and coloured with Medium Blue-Green (Lee 116) gel. The black cloth background behind the setup was 150cm (5 feet) away - because the lights were so close to the microphone and headphones the background effectively disappeared.
Thanks again to all who participated, and to Dan for letting us sully his beautiful website. :-)

Very nice shot. Similar to the shot that won the first communication challenge but the blue really adds to this shot. My number 1 pick overall, good luck!

I like the comp and lighting. The image is nice and crisp too... but for some reason, maybe the darkness, it just does not 'pop' for me

nice colors and nice focus. I think i would have prefered to see the headphones entirely and not cut instead
