Well done Tripanfal . . . if nothing else you certainly demonstrated inginuity, tenacity, and disipline, as well as phographic skills to capture this image. Well done putting the whole picture together. I enjoyed your results.

Falco - I agree the shot is not perfectly in focus. It is the fastest my flash would expose the shot. I would also agree that that it has been done before, But hackneyed? A little harsh eh? Most of the shots I'VE seen of this were from schools, institutions and are much WORSE than this IMO as they were taken by students studying physics, not photography.
As for "being as answer to other shots of this type" and "been seen many times before" I never hear anyone say that about insect macros, sunsets, or the wonderful image of a leaf on stones shot by MikeBee. (A popular shot during Fall) As a matter of fact, I think I'm the only one that eluded to the fact that there are SO MANY flower macros in these challenges, people always find a way to shoehorn them in.
Believe me, I actually did not expect to win this due to the fact that the shot IS a little out of focus. I just wanted to bring something to the table that was a little different, something that would make people say "how the heck did he do that".
No sour grapes here and I like criticism. I believe it improves performance, as does these challenges. Like I said before, all in good fun...

I felt that this site has a penchant for this type of shot and I don't like it, but there is no doubt that it is an answer to other shots of this type. Well done! Undoubtedly into my top 10.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to throw a spanner in the works here & agree with Shudder on this. I personally think that this sort of picture is a little hackneyed & has been done many many times before & a lot better than this. I'm unsure if the many people commenting on the wonderful focus are looking at the same picture as I am? To my eyes the only thing in sharp focus is the stick!!!! I'll accept that it probably wasn't an easy picture to capture with the s602 but that doesn't make it a good picture. Sorry.

Great Shot! Pun intended. Wonderful focus, timing, and colour. Wanted to do similiar shot using my crossbow but hunting took precedence. Sure to be #1, at least in my book. Good luck.

The Saint. I have an egg stand but about 2/3 of the egg is obscured. I wanted to see full fracturing of the egg. I thought about a crop to the bottom of the egg, but it looked a little wierd.

It would have been nicer on an egg stand... the stick is a distraction (out of character) but this really does say speed. It would have been nice to catch the pellet exiting, but you can't have everything.

BillS - Has nothing to do with shutter lag. The exposure time on the camera was 1 second. The FLASH exposed this image at a speed of about 1/600 to 1/1000 of a second.

With shutter lag, etc. this would normally be next to impossible to achieve. I would be interested in your technique. Good work!

Brisbane- I can assure you this egg was raw. If it was soft boiled I'm not sure the fracturing would be as pronounced. Also, notice the yellow yolk. The white coloring is actually reflections from the flash above. (hate to say it but nothing more than blown highlight) Also, eggs have a very thin membrane that is white. I should have photographed the mess :)

I am not totally convinced it is completely raw , there seems to be a white colouring where the egg is broken in some parts which suggests perhaps a 1 - 2 minute egg , or is this because of the lighting used , anyway the pic is clear and sharp , all I need to know now is how it became in this state. Well done

But the thing is... we've all seen this exact shot many times before! Why is it interesting here? Okay, trying to be a little less pissy and emphatic I do like the purplish colors blowing out around the egg -- that gives it some nice depth. But, that's all the enthusiasm I can muster for this well worn type of shot (hey, you never know -- you might say the same thing about my pic...).
